How to Create the Perfect First Wedding Dance
Your First Dance As A Couple
You’ve made it through the ceremony, the picture taking and the receiving line. You are now officially a married couple and one of the main attractions at your reception is your first dance. This is a magical moment and a memory that will last forever. One of the best ways to dance your special moment with confidence is to hire a great dance instructor who understands the two of you and what this moment means. Here are some tips to help you along:
Tip #1: Select a professional ballroom instructor who has experience in weddings. It really does make a difference in how you feel and your confidence level. Your wedding day is packed full of things including the first dance. To be able to float across the floor because you know the dance that well is an amazing feeling.
Tip #2: Discuss your dance goals with your dance teacher so they can do everything they can to get you there and exceed your own expectations.
Tip #3: Discuss the details with your dance teacher including how you will enter the dance floor, its size and shape and even what surface it will be. Tell them what your wedding dress is like so they can help you with any “special” moves like dips, turns, and spins you might want to master.
Tip #4: When picking your wedding music for your first dance, choose a song that is meaningful to both of you and then share it with your dance instructor. You want to make sure it has a beat you can dance to and that it is within the recommended 2-3 minute mark.
Tip #5: Start your lessons about three months in advance. Even if you know how to dance, performing a choreographed wedding dance is new. Give yourself the time to learn it, love it and live it. Many couples set up weekly dance lessons, (at least once a week,) and allow time for practice.
Tip #6: Practice in between your lessons. It really does make a difference to the ease you will feel and dance come the day. It’s kind of like fun, stolen moments for the two of you. We like to have people practice in the shoes you’ll be wearing if at all possible as well as a full skirt. Don’t worry, if you don’t have one we have plenty of props.
Tip #7: Make sure your DJ and photographer know what you’re up to so the DJ can cue music correctly and the photographer is ready for movement in their shots.
Your first wedding dance is a beautiful expression of your love, and a true symbol of your future life together as a couple. Your friends and family will be impressed by anything you do. It’s a joyous day. Our biggest wish for you is to have it be everything you dreamed of and more.
Happy Dancing!
