New Guest Teachers for Sunday Adult Ballet Classes
Joy of Dance is excited to welcome Rebecca Lewis and Claire Perreault as the new guest teachers for adult Ballet, Level 2 and adult Ballet on Pointe, Beginner and Level 1 classes this summer term! Claire and Rebecca will be guest teaching Sunday Ballet classes while Emily Tench is away on maternity leave. Please give them a big Joy of Dance welcome!
Rebecca Lewis:
Originally from beautiful B.C., Rebecca’s extensive dance training and performing began at a very early age at her mother’s dance studio. After training under the National Association of Teachers of Dance based in London, England, Rebecca achieved her Fellowship accreditation in ballet, tap and modern stage. She has been teaching ballet for over 20 years and her ultimate goal is to help students find enjoyment in the art form. Rebecca currently heads the senior ballet division at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts.
Rebecca is a specialist at teaching adults and more specifically adult beginners. She understands and embraces the adult learner with a teaching-style that is effective and fun. “Everyone expects ballet to be rigid and difficult, and while there is a strong technical element, the artistic expression of ballet is so joyous and beautiful one can’t help but be captivated.”
Claire Perreault:
Claire Perreault began her ballet training at Port Perry Dance Academy where she was taught by Lynn Ahmad, a Graded Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. She performed and competed locally in ballet with her studio’s dance team and continued her dance education with Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS). In 2012, Claire graduated “With Distinction” from the Teacher Training Program at NBS having earned teaching qualifications in Classical Ballet with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Cecchetti Society of Canada, and in European Folk Dance with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. She also completed the Advanced Two dance examinations with all three of these organizations. This month Claire graduated magna cum laude from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance and anthropology. Claire is a committed teacher, bringing her passion for dance to all her students. Her grace and integrity are fully present in every class she teaches. One of her greatest joys is to see her students flourish as they develop their creative potential.
