A most recent fulfillment of this interest was a solo performed as part of TDT’s On Display, created with visual artist Paulette Phillips. Continuing her work now as an independent artist she has engaged with creators Allison Cummings, Simon Renaud and Robert Stephen. She is currently involved in a research project with Syreeta Hector. Kaitlin holds a BFA from Ryerson University.Education and outreach have always been intrinsically linked to Kaitlin’s performance career. Since the age of twelve she has been involved in teaching and performing for students, first with the youth ensemble Visions Dance Company through the BC organization ArtStarts, and then through TDT’s outreach initiative, Studio Series, both at home and on tour. Last summer, Kaitlin created and led a workshop entitled Collaboration in Contemporary Dance at York University’s Fine Arts Summer Intensive. She has also taught York University’s undergraduate dance students during TDT’s residency in 2012, pre-professional students at The National Ballet of Canada Summer Dance Intensive and this past fall has been a regular substitute at Conteur Academy.

New Guest Teachers for Sunday Adult Ballet Classes

Joy of Dance is excited to welcome Rebecca Lewis and Claire Perreault as the new guest teachers for adult Ballet, Level 2 and adult Ballet on Pointe, Beginner and Level 1 classes this summer term! Claire and Rebecca will be guest teaching Sunday Ballet classes while Emily Tench is away on maternity leave. Please give them a big Joy of Dance welcome! Rebecca Lewis: Originally from beautiful B.C., Rebecca’s extensive dance training and performing began at a very early age at her mother’s dance studio. After training under the National Association of Teachers of Dance based in London, England, Rebecca achieved her Fellowship accreditation in ballet, tap and modern stage. She has been teaching ballet for over 20 years and her ultimate goal is to help students find enjoyment in the art form. Rebecca currently heads the senior ballet division at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts. Rebecca is a specialist at teaching adults and more specifically adult beginners. She understands and embraces the adult learner with a teaching-style that is effective and fun. “Everyone expects ballet to be rigid and difficult, and while there is a strong technical element, the artistic expression of ballet is so joyous and beautiful one can’t help but be captivated.” Claire Perreault: Claire Perreault began her ballet training at Port Perry Dance Academy where she was taught by Lynn Ahmad, a Graded Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. She performed and competed locally in ballet with her studio’s dance team and continued her dance education with Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS). In 2012, Claire graduated "With Distinction" from the Teacher Training Program at NBS having earned teaching qualifications in Classical Ballet with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Cecchetti Society of Canada, and in European Folk Dance with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. She also completed the Advanced Two dance examinations with all three of these organizations. This month Claire graduated magna cum laude from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance and anthropology. Claire is a committed teacher, bringing her passion for dance to all her students. Her grace and integrity are fully present in every class she teaches. One of her greatest joys is to see her students flourish as they develop their creative potential.

Joy of Dance wants to make this Holiday Season a warm one for those adults and families who are cold and hungry. Beginning this December 5, Joy of Dance will be placing donation boxes and bins in our studios as well as at Ryerson Theatre on December 15th at the Joy of Dance Holiday Showcase.    “This is the time of year when those who go without is particularly noticeable.” says Jennifer Jones CEO of Joy of Dance Centre. “There are so many adults and families who struggle to put food on the table and as many who don’t have the means to keep themselves warm. Our goal is to be able to donate 5,000.00 to the Food Bank and organizations collecting coats, mittens, hats and scarves.”   Over 10 million pounds of food a year are distributed to individuals and families who are struggling with hunger in our communities. This number increases during the Holiday Season. While it is difficult to determine similar numbers, the need for warm clothing is critical and something many organizations like Covenant House need and companies support.   We ask all of our Joy of Dance family; students, teachers, parents, faculty family members and friends, to put something arm in our donation boxes. All non-perishable food and items of warm clothing for adults, teens and kids are also welcome.   Joy of Dance Centre is dedicated to the best in all things dance from Ballet to Ballroom. We are located at 95 Danforth Ave., Toronto Ontario.   # # #For more information contact Ellen Smith, Director of Marketing at 416-406-3262 or at ellen@joyofdance.ca. JOD Annie Lebeva Dances the CIBC Run for the Cure Oct 6

Run It. Walk It. Jog It. Dance It. Annie Lebedeva, Ballroom teacher at Joy of Dance, wants to help find a cure for breast cancer. Keeping women healthy is one of her passions. That is why Annie is doing the CIBC Run for the Cure on October 6, 2013. That is also why she’s adding a slight twist to exactly how she does it. Annie has pledged to dance her way to the finish line no matter what.    “Cancer affects all of us in some way,” says Annie. “Fund raising for this event is a way to raise awareness and generate the necessary monies for research, hospice, medication, and care, all of which are essential. Cancer is an expensive disease on so many levels. The toll it takes emotionally and financially is a heavy one.”      “The women who suffer from this disease are our mothers, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, aunts and friends,” says Jennifer Lambert Jones, CEO of Joy of Dance Centre. “We are very proud of Annie and her commitment to participating in this important event. We are with her every step of the way.”   Annie is not new to this run. While living in England she put her running shoes on and ran the 5k, raising £500. Now in Canada she continues the momentum with the goal of raising $1,000. She believes that by keeping awareness high we are giving someone hope and potentially a future.    “Dancing to the finish line is my way of keeping the conversation going,” says Annie.  “I believe that dance is transformative so why not use it to find a cure.”   To find out more about Annie Lebedeva from Joy of Dance go to www.joyofdance.ca or www.runforthecure.com/goto/anfissalebedeva.   *********Joy of Dance Centre is dedicated to the best in all things dance from Ballet to Ballroom, Latin to Zumba.
